Why Nakuru Girls moniker may be here for long

Looking at the unfolding political theater especially in Nakuru County as the 2027 General Election race takes shape, one thing is clear; the talks of sending the so called Nakuru Girls home is premature.

Nakuru Girls currently comprises of governor Susan Kihika, senator Tabitha Karanja Keroche, woman representative Liza Chelule  and legislators Irene Njoki Mrembo of Bahati, Charity Kathambi Chepkwony of Njoro, Martha Wangari of Gilgil and Jayne Kihara of Naivasha constituencies respectively.

With the exception of senator Keroche, all other Nakuru Girls will be fighting hard to protect their seats.

Ms Keroche has indicated she's going for the gubernatorial seat, and is ready to dethrone the incumbent with whom they've been pitted in internecine political exchanges. Some of these exchanges have degenerated to personal name calling, with other allegations seeing the governor rushing to courts filing cases against accusations levelled against her by the former.

At the constituency level, especially at Bahati constituency, another all female battle is shaping up. The incumbent, Irene Njoki, is facing off with an aspirant by name of Mary Justus Mannabay (pictured). And both of their camps are embroiled in online trolling if not on propaganda and name smearing.

Usually, in politics, the likely strongest opponent is one that gets the attention of the incumbent when others aren't seen as serious contenders ready to mop the floor clean. And she's one currently at the lead among a pack of other aspirants in dethroning the incumbent.

Liza Chelule will likely kiss her seat goodbye after serving two terms. There's a new face making headwinds in name of Mumbi Macharia (pictured). Whether the latter runs full campaign course is yet to be seen. But, like many out there, I too wonder what woman representatives serves, if their roles is not a duplication of MPs roles.

As can be seen, this conversation of sending the Nakuru Girls packing as a whole package next year is premature.
